A Dubai Setup Designed Around Digital Administration

Meydan Free Zone is a Dubai free-zone authority offering business licensing through an online formation journey. Its current platform supports a broad activity catalogue, trade-name reservation, digital document submission and different licence, workspace and immigration configurations.

This model can be practical for founders who do not initially need industrial land or a large operational facility. It should still be compared with other jurisdictions when the business needs warehousing, manufacturing, retail premises, specialised supervision or a particular mainland operating arrangement.

Who may find it suitable

Start With the Operating Model, Not the Free-Zone Name

01

Digital and technology businesses

Online services, software, digital agencies and related activities may suit a flexible, digitally managed setup.

02

Consultants and professionals

Advisory and specialist service providers can consider Meydan when the selected activity accurately reflects the work delivered.

03

E-commerce and selected trading

Online sellers and commercial businesses can assess the relevant activity, supply chain, customs and mainland operating requirements.

04

International founders

Applicants seeking a Dubai entity with a remote formation process may find the digital application model practical.

Compare another jurisdiction when needed. Large warehouses, industrial land, manufacturing facilities, customer-facing premises or regulated approvals may point to a different free zone or mainland structure.

Licence and activities

Your Licence Must Match What the Company Will Actually Do

Meydan’s current setup route includes professional or service activities, commercial and trading activities, and e-commerce or digital activities. The chosen descriptions affect what the company may invoice for, how banks assess the business and whether another regulator must approve the activity.

Eligible activities may be combined across approved groups, but compatibility should be confirmed before filing. A regulated profession, specialist service, food-related activity, financial service or other controlled sector may require evidence or external approval.

Ownership, Workspace and Visas

Choose the Structure Around Real Operating Needs

Ownership and Shareholders

Eligible foreign founders may hold full ownership. The number and type of shareholders, managers and authorised signatories must be confirmed. Corporate shareholders require additional constitutional and ownership documents.

Workspace and Address

The registered-address, flexi-desk or office arrangement depends on the package and activity. A flexible option is not automatically suitable for every licence, bank, visa allocation or operational requirement.

Visas and Establishment

Investor and employee residence may be available through eligible packages. Establishment-card and immigration steps usually apply before visa processing. Allocation remains subject to the facility, package and immigration approval.

Common documents

Prepare the Application Details

  • Proposed company-name options

  • Shareholder, manager and signatory information
  • Current UAE residence details, where applicable

The final checklist is determined by Meydan Free Zone and may change after application review.

ITQAN confirms the requirement before providing a written scope and quotation. Published promotions, package inclusions and government charges should be rechecked on the date you proceed.

Frequently asked questions

Meydan Free Zone Questions

01Must I be a UAE resident to form a Meydan Free Zone company?+

Not necessarily. Meydan Free Zone promotes a digital formation process that can be started remotely. Residence becomes relevant if you select a visa package, need Emirates ID-linked services or must complete later immigration and banking steps.

02Do I need a physical office?+

It depends on the activity, package, visa requirement and operating model. A registered address or flexible workspace may be available, while some businesses need dedicated premises or another jurisdiction. Confirm the facility before selecting the licence.

03Can the company sponsor visas?+

Potentially. Investor or employee visa eligibility depends on the selected package, establishment and immigration requirements, facility allocation and authority approval. Family sponsorship is a separate process after the principal applicant obtains eligible UAE residence.

04Can I combine several business activities?+

Meydan currently allows eligible applicants to select activities across approved activity groups, subject to compatibility and authority review. Activities needing external approval or creating a materially different operating model may require additional assessment or a separate structure.

05Can a Meydan company work with mainland customers?+

A free-zone company may serve UAE customers where its activity and operating method permit, but physical mainland operations, regulated services, customs, distribution or government contracting can require additional permissions or arrangements. Review the actual transaction model before setup.

06Will the licence guarantee a corporate bank account?+

No. A licence allows the company to apply. Banks independently review ownership, activities, markets, source of funds, expected transactions, UAE presence and supporting documents. ITQAN can help prepare the application but cannot control the bank’s decision.

07Is a Meydan company automatically exempt from VAT or Corporate Tax?+

No. Free-zone status does not automatically remove UAE tax obligations. VAT depends on taxable activities and registration rules. Corporate Tax treatment, including any 0% treatment for qualifying income, depends on meeting all current legal conditions.
